24 Hours Exploring Quintessential Cambridge

Enjoy a luxurious 24 hours in Cambridge with a stay at the elegant University Arms. From punting on the River Cam and exploring historic landmarks to vibrant dining, cocktails and boutique shopping, this itinerary blends culture, cuisine and charm — a stylish city break you’ll want to repeat.

Your Cambridge adventure begins with check-in at the elegant University Arms, the city’s oldest hotel and a true leader in luxury hospitality. Effortlessly blending timeless British style with quintessential Cambridge character, it’s the perfect base for your stay.

Kick-start your trip with a flavour-packed visit to Permit Room, tucked along the cobbled charm of Trinity Street. Inspired by the vibrant flavours of Bombay, it’s the ideal spot to share moreish curries, dunk warm naan, and sample tempting bar snacks, all perfectly paired with a refreshing mango lassi.

With appetites satisfied, spend a relaxing afternoon gliding along the River Cam on a traditional punt. As you drift past the city’s historic college buildings, your guide will share fascinating stories that bring centuries of Cambridge history to life.

Back on dry land, it’s time for cocktail hour. Why not elevate the experience with a cocktail masterclass at The Lab on Regent Street? Learn to mix, shake and stir classics such as the Espresso Martini and Negroni under the guidance of expert mixologists, and enjoy tasting your creations along the way.

As evening falls, there’s still plenty to discover. A ghost walking tour offers a thrilling way to explore the city after dark. Expect intriguing tales, shadowy corners and perhaps a playful jump scare or two… if you’re brave enough.

After a full day of exploring, return to Parker’s Tavern, located within the University Arms, for a memorable dinner. Think 48-hour sourdough served with butter, alongside beautifully crafted seasonal dishes prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Then it’s time to retreat to your cosy room for a well-earned night’s rest.

Start the next morning with breakfast at Parker’s Tavern before heading out to explore more of the city on foot. Wander along King’s Parade to admire the iconic King’s College building, then stroll a little further to marvel at the extraordinary Corpus Clock.

Just around the corner, step inside The Eagle, the historic pub where the discovery of DNA was first announced. A few doors down, treat yourself to a scoop (or two) from Jack’s Gelato, known for its creative and ever-changing flavours.

Take time to uncover Cambridge’s hidden gems and independent boutiques. Rose Crescent, Green Street and Sussex Street are excellent starting points for a little retail therapy, though you’ll find plenty more treasures as you wander.

When you’re ready for a break, Pint Shop on Peas Hill makes a perfect pit stop. Their mouth-watering Scotch eggs, seasonal plates and impressive craft beer selection are sure to hit the spot.

For a tranquil finale, visit the beautiful Cambridge University Botanic Garden. Wander through vibrant displays, breathe in the floral scents and soak up the peaceful surroundings. With year-round events and ever-changing seasonal highlights, there’s always something new to enjoy.

That’s 24 hours in Cambridge but we have a feeling it won’t be your last visit.
